Adani Solar: Leading India’s Renewable Revolution

mojo4industry presents a captivating feature spotlighting Adani Solar, a prominent participant at the Smarter E India 2024 exhibition in Gandhinagar. In an exclusive interview with Mr. Rahul Bhutiani, Chief Marketing Officer of Adani Solar, we delve into the company’s remarkable journey and ambitious plans for the future. With a clear focus on expanding their solar manufacturing capacity to 10 GW by 2027, Adani Solar stands at the forefront of India’s renewable energy revolution. Mr. Bhutiani shares insights on the significant announcement of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana by Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing its potential to drive growth in the solar sector and Adani Solar’s role therein.

Beyond manufacturing, Adani Solar is keen on exploring avenues like green hydrogen, indicative of their commitment to innovation and sustainability. At the Smarter E India Expo, Adani Solar showcased its cutting-edge solutions reflecting their dedication to shaping a cleaner energy future. As we peer into the horizon, Mr. Bhutiani offers compelling predictions for the solar and renewable energy sector, envisioning Adani Solar’s continued leadership in years to come.

What is your opinion on Prime Minister Modi’s recent announcement of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, a major initiative aimed at enhancing the solar industry, particularly in light of Adani Solar’s prominent role in this sector?
We are highly encouraged by the recent announcement made by the Prime Minister, as it signifies a significant step forward. This initiative reflects a strong commitment to the people of India, one that we fully support. Our organization is dedicated to contributing to the realization of this vision, leveraging our resources and distribution network nationwide. We wholeheartedly endorse the Prime Minister’s initiative and are eager to play our part in its success.

How does Adani Solar intend to broaden its market presence beyond manufacturing capabilities?
In regard to our manufacturing operations, we’re focusing our investments on building a fully integrated supply chain within the country. However, we’re also committed to significant investments in expanding our distribution network. Our goal is to ensure that Adani modules are accessible across every part of the country, reaching even the most remote areas.

We’ve often discussed Adani Group’s interest in green hydrogen. What are your thoughts on this emerging sector?
We are actively assessing the green hydrogen sector and have made significant investments in it. Green hydrogen relies on renewable energy sources, such as solar power, which aligns with our solar manufacturing initiatives. This integration between solar manufacturing and green hydrogen production drives our commitment to both sectors. We’re dedicated to further investments in solar manufacturing as it supports our ambitions in green hydrogen. Stay tuned for upcoming announcements that will provide clarity on our plans for this sector.

Can you outline the distinctions between this edition and past ones of The Smarter E India 2024 exhibition? Additionally, what solutions can visitors expect to see at Adani Solar’s booth?
We might be the first and only manufacturer in the country to produce topcon modules using topcon cells in India. This is an attractive and intriguing aspect for people, showcasing the latest technology developed and manufactured entirely in India. Furthermore, we are nearing completion of a full-scale ingot wafer manufacturing facility, which will enable us to produce our own wafers. We have already established a 2GW facility for ingots and wafers. This means we will soon have our own wafers supplying our cell lines. These are two noteworthy advancements that set us apart from other manufacturers at the show.

What do you foresee for the future of the solar and renewable energy sector, and how does Adani Solar anticipate positioning itself in the years ahead?
We are steadfast in our commitment to expanding our capacities to 10GW, covering not only modules but also cells, ingots, wafers, and polysilicon. Our vision extends to establishing a comprehensive ecosystem, starting from manufacturing polysilicon, to producing ingots, wafers, cells, and modules, along with ancillary units like glass, back sheets, encapsulants, junction boxes, and more. This development will unfold in phases, with an initial focus on cell and module expansion before scaling up polysilicon production. Within the next 2 to 3 years, we anticipate completing nearly 90% of the solar panel manufacturing process in India.

During our last meeting in 2023, you discussed Adani Solar’s ambitious plan to achieve a 10 GW solar manufacturing capacity by 2027. Could you provide an update on the progress made?
These investments require significant time for fruition. Since our announcement in 2023, we’ve remained dedicated to our vision and clear intent. With nearly Rs 30,000 Crore earmarked for this endeavor, it’s a substantial commitment. Transitioning from cells and modules to ingots and wafers marks our progress, with plans for further expansion in cell and module capacities. We anticipate seeing tangible results in phases, possibly achieving a 10 GW ecosystem by 2026-2027.

Finally, could you outline Adani Solar’s key targets for the year ahead?
Each business has its key focus areas, and for us, manufacturing efficiency is paramount. We aim to optimize our manufacturing processes, striving for the highest levels of capacity utilization and operational efficiency. On the sales and marketing front, our goal is to enhance and expand our brand recognition. Currently, we are among the most recognized brands in India, and we aim to further strengthen this position. Our ultimate aim is to ensure that everything we produce is sold, driving us to minimize inventory and maximize capacity utilization. We are committed to producing to our maximum capacity and selling all that we produce.
