VDMA Hosts Mechanical Engineering Summit in Pune
The German Engineering Federation (VDMA) India successfully conducted its annual Mechanical Engineering Summit on 18 October in Pune, attracting over 370 participants from 29 cities across India and Germany.
Highlighting the robust relationship between India and Germany, Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India discussed the various successful events organized by VDMA India. These initiatives have significantly contributed to fostering collaboration and innovation within the industry. Furthermore, Mr Nath underscored Pune’s vital role in the industrial landscape, noting its strong connections to engineering and technology.
In a video address, Baba Kalyani, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Forge reflected on two decades of successful business engagements in Germany, emphasizing the significant transformations within the Indian industry over this period.
Pankaj Sonalkar, CMD, Kalyani Powertrain, delivered a compelling address on the theme “Manufacturing: Driving India’s Growth”. He highlighted the reasons why India is emerging as one of the world’s largest and fastest-growing economies.
Ulrich Ackermann, Managing Director of the Foreign Trade Division at VDMA Frankfurt, delivered a significant address on the topic “Geopolitical Impact on the Mechanical Engineering Industry.” In his insightful presentation, he examined the current pressures facing globalization and the geopolitical landscape, providing valuable perspectives on strategies to navigate these challenges.
Richard Clemens, Managing Director of VDMA Food Processing and Packaging Machinery & Process Plant and Equipment, delivered an address celebrating 25 years of VDMA in India.
Rohit Sachdev, Associate Partner, Leading GRCS Practice West & South India, Roedl & Partner Consulting shared a technical presentation that covered a range of important topics related to internal auditing. He addressed the applicability of internal audits, clarified common misconceptions, and discussed the evolving landscape of this essential practice.
In her presentation, Anagha Deodhar, Senior Economist at ICICI Bank discussed the growth journey of both ICICI Bank and the Indian economy, informing attendees that India is poised to become the second-largest economy in the coming years. She highlighted various drivers of growth, emphasizing the rising prosperity that is expected to drive consumption across the nation.
Aditya Adavi, Engineering Center Head at Bosch Global Software Technologies delivered a presentation on “The Integration of Sustainability into Modern Manufacturing” and provided insights into his company’s mission and initiatives toward sustainable manufacturing.
A report on “Strengthening Indian Leadership in a Global Context” was released by Maier + Vidorno Altios at the 13th VDMA Mechanical Engineering. Manish Dwivedi, Senior Manager, M+V Altios provided an in-depth explanation of the report.
The Technical Session II focused on the theme topic, “Accelerating Next Generation Manufacturing” where top companies like SIEMENS, SCHAEFFLER and ABB deliberated on the need to accelerate the next-generation manufacturing.
Prashanth Uppunda, Associate Vice President – Technology & Innovation, Siemens Technology & Services explained Artificial Intelligence (AI) as one of the most transformative technologies of the present era whereas Seshan Iyer, President of Bearings & Industrial Solutions, Schaeffler India spoke about “Emerging Trends in Smart Manufacturing”. Rajesh Ramachandran, Global Chief Digital Officer and Managing Director, ABB Process Automation spoke on “Advancing Sustainably and Productivity with AI”.
A report on Demystifying Legal Metrology Laws in India was released by Apalka Bareja, Senior Associate, SS RANA & Co.
A panel discussion on “3 Ps leading India’s manufacturing growth” was attended by Harsha Kadam, CEO & Managing Director, Schaeffler India; Gaurav Bawa, Senior Vice President, WIKA India; V. G. Sakthi Kumar, Chairman & Managing Director, SCHWING Stetter (India); Ritesh Dhingra, Managing Director, MULTIVAC LARAON India; and Milind Godbole, President, MAHLE India. The session was moderated by Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India.
