Maharashtra MSMEs to get 400 MW rooftop solar projects

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar launched 400 MW solarisation of MSMEs project through Public-Private Partnership (PPP).

The initiative, termed as “Mukhyamatri Saurya Udyog Utthan Prakalp”, is conceived and managed by the Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy and Infrastructure Technology Limited (MAHAPREIT), a subsidiary of Mahatma Phule Backward Class Development Corporation (MPBCDC). MAHAPREIT launched a Notice Inviting Tender for the initiative where the implementation will be carried out by Renewable Energy Services Companies (RESCOs) to bring down the costs of energy for MSMEs in Maharashtra.

At the occasion, the CM said, “The proposed MSMEs 400 MW of solarisation project will make the industries competitive in the state of Maharashtra and also offer them carbon-neutrality, paving ways for exports.” The Deputy CM stated that such efforts are important in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

Dr. Amol Shinde, Chairman and Managing Director, MAHAPREIT said, “MSMEs solar installation is supported by Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) through a guarantee mechanism that would lead to multiple investments.” He further mentioned that with the launch of the Notice Inviting Tender today, MAHAPREIT is planning an expedited delivery of the solarisation of MSMEs in about five clusters in the state.

The project has the ability to create around 100,000 jobs in the renewable energy sector and bring investments of around Rs. 2,000 crores over the coming year spread over 10,000 MSMEs in clusters spread over Maharashtra.

At the occasion of the launch of the MSME Solarization Initiative, Saurabh Kumar, Vice President – India at Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) congratulated the Government of Maharashtra and MAHAPREIT for their leadership in taking decisive steps towards MSME solarization. He assured support in developing technical solutions and business models to attract renewable energy service companies to deliver large-scale efforts with targeted completion opportunities.
