Eaton unveils Lightweight Explosion-Protected Camera for Hazardous Environments

eaton unveils lightweight explosion protected camera for hazardous environments

Power management company Eaton has introduced the EPIK Series Explosion-Protected PTZ Camera, specifically designed for hazardous environments. The new camera boasts a significant weight reduction, from 60 kg to just 7 kg, thanks to its advanced carbon-reinforced polymer construction.

The EPIK Series was launched at Automation Expo 2024 in Mumbai, where Eaton showcased a wide range of Crouse-Hinds series solutions, including surge protection, LED lighting, CCTV technology, and more. Philipose Jacob, Country Director, India – Eaton Crouse-Hinds, B-Line, Oil and Gas, emphasized the company’s commitment to innovation, stating, “Eaton is continuously focused on product innovation, and this time, we have a full range of new products on display.”

Designed for onshore, offshore, marine, and heavy industrial applications, the EPIK Series offers lightweight durability and corrosion resistance. Its easy installation and enhanced safety features make it ideal for use in challenging environments.

In an exclusive interaction with mojo4industry, Philipose revealed Eaton’s future plans to further develop the EPIK Series by incorporating 3D printing technology. “We drastically reduced the camera’s weight from 60 kg to 7 kg using the latest materials technology. Soon, we will be able to 3D print these cameras, and our goal is to localize their production in India next year, following all necessary certifications.”

Alongside the EPIK Series, Eaton showcased several other cutting-edge solutions at the Expo, including:
HART over Ethernet: A device that integrates the HART protocol with Eaton’s technology, enabling seamless transmission of process data from field devices to asset management software. It optimizes maintenance, reduces downtime, and lowers costs, particularly in water management applications.

GECMA IS 10.1-inch Tablet PC: A rugged tablet designed for hazardous environments, featuring a powerful processor, capacitive touchscreen (usable with gloves), flexible connectivity options, and long battery life.

MEDC XB15M Metallic XenonBeacon: A robust signaling device for harsh environments, offering ATEX and IECEx certification, user-swappable lens covers, and consistent performance in extreme temperatures.

Additionally, Eaton highlighted its digital Hydrogen Scope of Supply tool at the Expo, showcasing the company’s commitment to ensuring safety in hydrogen applications
