Deutsche Messe, German Hydrogen Assoc. invite entries for H2Eco Award

In the run-up to HANNOVER MESSE 2025, Deutsche Messe AG and the German Hydrogen Association (DWV) are now jointly inviting entries for the H2Eco Award. This is set for presentation on 1 April 2025 on the stage of the Public Forum Hydrogen + Fuel Cells EUROPE during the world’s leading trade fair for industry. The closing date for companies and institutions to submit their entries for this prestigious award is 10 February 2025.

The H2Eco Award honors companies and institutions driving the advancement of the hydrogen economy with exceptional innovations and groundbreaking projects. The focus is on pioneers who demonstrate the immense potential of a green hydrogen economy by realizing economically viable projects and helping pave the way toward a sustainable future as trailblazers. Economic viability, sustainability and security of supply are key factors in the assessment criteria.

A high-caliber, independent jury of hydrogen experts from politics, business, research, and society will nominate three companies and/or institutions from among the entries for the H2Eco Award. The winner will be announced on the stage of the Public Forum Hydrogen + Fuel Cells EUROPE on 1 April 2025.

Friederike Lassen, CEO of the DWV: “HANNOVER MESSE 2025 will see the H2Eco Award presented for the fourth time already. We are proud that, through this award, we can honor outstanding players in the hydrogen industry for their exceptional work and thus also give something back to those involved.”

Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board of Deutsche Messe AG: “Hydrogen opens up vast opportunities and potential as the green energy carrier par excellence. The current pace of implementation and scaling is insufficient, however, against which background we are pleased to play a significant role in helping establish a stable hydrogen economy through the H2Eco Award.”

H2Eco Award 2024
At HANNOVER MESSE 2024, the H2Eco Award was presented to the Bad Lauchstädt Energy Park, a consortium comprising several partners. The project combines the production of green hydrogen from wind energy with the storage, transport and use thereof on an industrial scale. This involves a 50 MW wind farm, a 30 MW large-scale electrolyzer and a converted natural gas pipeline. The hydrogen is stored in a salt cavern and subsequently transported to a nearby refinery. The award acknowledged a truly innovative model for a sustainable hydrogen economy.
