Maharashtra CM flags off Mumbai Trans Harbour Link

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde waved the green flag, initiating a short drive for the bus on Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) as a ceremonial gesture, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, MMRDA ( Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority) officers, engineers etc.

The MTHL consists of a total bridge length of 22 kilometers, including 5.5 kilometers of approach roads on both ends—Sewri on the Mumbai side and Nhava on the Navi Mumbai side.

Following the flag off ceremony on May 24, the project will progress to the remaining stages, which involve the installation of crash barriers, asphalting the deck, erecting view-cutters, establishing open toll collection centers, implementing security and surveillance systems, installing markers and signages, waterproofing the engineering structure, and installing lights and reflectors. These activities are expected to be completed over the next four to five months.

The completion of the MTHL will not only save time and fuel but also have positive environmental implications. It will serve as a crucial link to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport, as well as facilitate access to special economic and residential zones in the region. Furthermore, it is expected to substantially reduce travel time to other destinations like Pune and Goa, benefiting commuters and enhancing regional connectivity.
