MMRDA signs MoU with Netherlands Govt. at World Economic Forum
MMRDA has signed an MoU with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management, Government of Netherlands to enforce sustainable urban development in the MMR at the World Economic Forum, Davos 2024.
“This Joint Declaration was envisioned to promote cooperation between MMRDA and the Government of the Netherlands in relation to guiding the sustainable development of the MMR. The Joint Declaration entails the sharing of best practices in smart city master planning, as well as integrated waste management. Moreover, this partnership will aid the MMR in its battle against climate change, alongside supporting its journey of attaining the Livability Goals, as well as becoming a circular economy through sustainable urban development,” a statement issued by MMRDA said.
Present at the occasion, Maharashtra Chief Minister and Chairman of MMRDA Eknath Shinde said, “This joint declaration with the Netherlands stands as a testament to our understanding, as it will redefine our capacity to tackle a wide range of challenges that are faced in the MMR in terms of handling waste management and climate change. These progressive achievements will undoubtedly transform the MMR into a highly efficient circular economy in the near future.”
Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA said, “Embracing the global best practices in integrated waste management will be a huge leap for the MMR toward sustainability, whereas becoming a circular economy and gaining resilience to climate change will safeguard the glorious future of the MMR.”
Erwin Nijsse, Director–General for Enterprise and Innovation, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy, Government of Netherlands said, “Meaningful attempts to welcome sustainability demand collaborations between conscious entities across the globe. The environmental welfare of the world depends on such collaborations, and our joint declaration with MMRDA is a result of the perfect alignment of our ideals with MMRDA’s commitment to the sustainable future of the MMR.”
