Medical devices industry welcomes India-Oman CEPA

The Indian medical devices industry has welcomed the signing of the India–Oman Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), calling it a significant step toward strengthening collaboration in healthcare and life sciences and expanding the reach of Indian medical technologies across Oman and the wider Gulf region.

Industry leaders said the agreement provides a structured framework to enhance bilateral trade, support ethical procurement practices, and enable Indian manufacturers to supply high-quality, affordable medical devices to international markets.

Rajiv Nath, Managing Director of Hindustan Syringes & Medical Devices Ltd. and Forum Coordinator of the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry (AiMeD), commended the government for concluding the agreement. He said, “We commend Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Government of India for concluding the CEPA with Oman, a landmark step that strengthens bilateral trade and opens new horizons for India’s medical device industry. This agreement will enhance access to affordable, high‑quality technologies like syringes, dialysers, and single‑use devices, while fostering ethical procurement and contract manufacturing partnerships.”

He adds, “CEPA is a win‑win that reinforces India’s role as a trusted partner in advancing healthcare accessibility across the Gulf region.”

Dr Rajiv Chhibber, Joint Forum Coordinator at AiMeD, highlighted the significance of trade liberalisation under the pact. “Zero-duty access on 99% of Indian exports is a decisive step that reinforces India’s growing stature as a trusted global manufacturing and innovation partner,” he said.

From a medical devices perspective, Dr Chhibber said the agreement would enhance the competitiveness of Indian MedTech companies in the Gulf region, enabling faster adoption of high-quality, affordable, Made-in-India devices. He added that the CEPA aligns strongly with the vision of “Make in India for the World,” positioning India as a global hub for medical device manufacturing and healthcare innovation.
