Jakson Group | Exclusive from DistribuELEC 2024

Jakson Infra, a business of Jakson Group, is a key player in the energy infrastructure sector offering comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) services. With a proven history of successfully executing global projects, such as solar power plants, rural electrification, substations, building electrification, and metro rail electrification, Jakson Infra is recognized for its proficiency and dedication to sustainable solutions. The company actively participated in DistribuElec 2024 in Mumbai, held from January 16th to 18th.

On the sidelines of DistribuElec, Nitin Gupta, Assistant Vice President – Business Development & Asset Management, Jakson Group, engaged in a discussion with mojo4industry. In the interview, he shed light on Jakson Infra’s role in the energy ecosystem, spanning from generation to storage. The conversation delved into Jakson’s involvement in urban transportation and its contributions to the power transmission segment. Watch the insightful interview now!

Can you provide an overview of the key role of Jakson Infra within the energy spectrum – from generation to storage?
Jackson, a company with a 75-year history, has built its foundation on sustainability by offering energy solutions. Originally focused on the diesel Genset business, we have expanded into multiple sectors, serving as growth catalysts. Currently, our portfolio includes over 3 GW of renewable IPP and EPC projects, a presence in CBD, significant involvement in battery energy storage, and active participation in various infrastructure segments. Our diverse verticals align with our commitment to providing sustainable energy solutions that positively impact our customers’ lives. This philosophy continues to drive our business and growth trajectory into the future.

In what ways does Jakson contribute to the power transmission segment?
Jackson has a decade-long history in the power industry. Our journey began with the Genset experience, leading us to explore electrical products and services. Currently, we are actively involved in the RDSS project across states such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Kolkata, and Rajasthan. We have successfully implemented government initiatives for development and are poised for RDSS Phase 2, aiming to supply over 780 GW of electricity by 2030.

In addition to our ongoing projects, we are seeking opportunities in upcoming smart city projects, with a focus on states like Punjab, Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and others. Our core business in transmission distribution extends to collaborations with entities such as the Power Grid and Nepal Electricity Boards.

Looking ahead, our business outlook includes both domestic and international growth. We are particularly focused on expanding in SAARC markets and the Africa region, with a proactive approach to these areas.

As rural electrification has been given due emphasis, what sort of business growth do you expect in this area?
Previously, the government’s primary focus was on expanding reach to customers and ensuring accessibility. Now, the emphasis has shifted to enabling 24-hour electricity consumption. The goal is to move from a scenario where people use electricity for only 2 hours a day to providing a continuous supply. System enhancements are underway to bolster capacity and meet the demand for round-the-clock service, particularly in rural areas.

In urban settings, efforts are directed at improving capacity utilization and minimizing right-of-way complexities to enhance the cityscape. We are actively exploring partnerships for underground projects, especially in collaboration with urban transportation initiatives.

How has Jakson been involved in urban transportation?
Urban transportation is an area of focus for us. We are actively exploring opportunities, including the recently introduced Parvatmala scheme by Nitin Gadkari. Venturing into urban ropeway projects is a prospect we are considering. Projects like the planned Shimla ropeway system, aimed at decongesting the city, and recent developments in Varanasi by another developer serve as examples. We are open to similar projects and are keen to explore opportunities in this domain.

Jackson Infra is currently emphasizing Metro projects. What are your thoughts on this focus area?
We are currently involved in metro projects across all four metros – Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bangalore. Our focus includes ENM and EMR work in these areas, and we remain committed to these projects. As Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities initiate their metro projects, we are poised to extend our partnership for ENM works in these emerging urban centers. Stay tuned for further developments in this direction.
