Power Minister RK Singh inaugurates DistribuELEC 2024 in Mumbai

Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association (IEEMA), the apex association of the Indian electrical equipment manufacturing industry, launched the 6th edition of its flagship event DistribuELEC and IntELEC with the 3rd Edition of BuildELEC (BID) 2024. The three-day event, scheduled from 16 – 18 January, was inaugurated by the Union Minister of Power, New & Renewable Energy R K Singh in Mumbai.

This year’s edition offers showcase of products, technologies, and services covering the entire spectrum upto 33KV.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Power Minister said, “In the past 9 years, we have brought great transformational changes in our industry, transforming the power sector from being power-deficient to power-sufficient. In the last 9 years, with the addition of 1,90,700 ckm (which is about 65% increase), the transmission network of 4,79,185 ckm has evolved as the largest national synchronous grid in the world. The total inter-regional power transmission capacity is enhanced to 1,16,540 MW, more than double in 9 years. We have set a huge ambition in energy transition and plan to have 500 GW of non-fossil based electricity installed capacity by 2030. We have installed Renewable Energy capacity of 1,79,570 MW (43% of our total capacity) and another 99,000 MW is under installation. My Ministry has rolled out the plan for 500 GW Generation as well as transmission system for evacuation of this power.”

Hamza Arsiwala, President, IEEMA, added, “The fact that BID 2024 has more than doubled in size from the previous edition, is a testament of the growth Indian Electrical Equipment industry is seeing, as a result of the power reforms and the fast pace of transformation that the power sector is undergoing for the past 9 years.”

Talking about industry growth, Charu Mathur, Director General of IEEMA said, “As a first in BID 2024, 200+ international buyers and 100+ domestic buyers will be meeting 250+ exhibitors in more than 3,000 B2B meetings over the next three days. We expect more than 50,000 visitor footfalls.”

IEEMA also announced its Quality, Safety and Reliability (QSR) Programme is presence of the Hon’ble Power Minister. The QSR programme will have an intense campaign to promote quality amongst the Indian industry.

The event is also witnessing traditional electrical equipment, including transformers, cables, capacitors, switchgears, meters, insulators, and conductors sharing the spotlight with cutting-edge innovations in distribution automation and control systems, energy efficiency, demand response, advanced metering, communications technologies, cybersecurity, and electrical fire safety.
