NexGeM: New trade fair for digitalization in machine tool building
Artificial intelligence, digitalization, automation, and data-driven processes are fundamentally transforming industrial production. Running parallel to HANNOVER MESSE 2027, NexGeM is a new platform dedicated to bringing these developments together for the machine tool industry and its value chain. The focus is on digital technologies and solutions that increase manufacturing productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.
The German Machine Tool Builders’ Association (VDW) and HANNOVER MESSE are joining forces: From 5 to 8 April 2027, the VDW will launch Next Generation Metalworking (NexGeM), a new trade fair for digitalization in machine tool building, that runs parallel with HANNOVER MESSE. This cooperation HANNOVER MESSE’s portfolio by including a key segment of the industrial value chain, creating additional synergies and added value for the global trade audience.
How will the metalworking industry become fit for the future?
Applying concrete use cases, NexGeM demonstrates how digital technologies make manufacturing more efficient and cost-effective. The focus is on the role of networked machine tools and their contribution to data-driven manufacturing processes. Visitors gain comprehensive insights into current developments and experience firsthand how mechanical engineering, IT and software increasingly interact within the metalworking industry.

NexGeM is not a traditional machinery trade show. Exhibiting companies will showcase forward-looking trends such as digital twins, artificial intelligence, Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), as well as cloud and edge computing. Custom cybersecurity is an indispensable component, protecting digital processes and securing data integrity.
Under the motto “Metal Works Digital”, NexGeM promotes exchange among mechanical engineering specialists and IT managers as well as automation and digitalization executives. In doing so, it offers exhibitors and visitors access to partners and customers they rarely meet at traditional metalworking trade fairs.
